How to prepare for a professional carpet cleaningAs a professional carpet cleaner with more than 30 years of experience, we know that customers feel a little anxiety over what they need to do to prepare for a visit. We totally understand this and wanted to address a few of the easy things you can do in order to get the most out of a carpet cleaning from our team. None of these will include some kind of crazy home renovation, so don’t panic if you are a little afraid of having to do something drastic. In other words, these tips are for everybody and are ready for your review down below!

Simple Things to Do Before Our Tech Arrives

Some of these things may seem pretty obvious to many of you reading this. But the team here at North American Chem-Dry believes in being thorough. Just ask any of our past customers who enjoyed the work we did enough to leave us awesome reviews. So in the spirit of being thorough, here are a few things we feel like are really helpful for our customers to do beforehand.

Clean Up the Clutter

We aren’t talking about going full Marie Kondo on your home. Honestly, there’s no need to do a complete declutter of your home in order for any professional carpet cleaning service to get the job done. It is, however, important to remove items from the carpeted area so our technicians can carefully clean every inch.

This will also allow our team more freedom to move without tripping. Items that are frequently overlooked include shoes, toys, books, and small electronic devices.

Move Around Your Lighter Furniture

Please don’t strain yourself moving a big heavy piece of furniture that your house may have been built around. If it’s too heavy it can totally stay where it is, and if it is important enough for you to clean under it then we would love to help you move it. However, please note that we are not licensed furniture movers, so it’s very important for you to try and get this done on your own before we arrive. Especially with the smaller furniture that you can move easily.

Simply clearing the area of small furniture such as plant stands, floor lamps, coffee tables, and ottomans can improve the ability of our technicians to give your carpet the deep, thoroughly clean it needs.

Protect Your Valuable Items and Areas

Our technicians do strive to be as careful as possible, but accidents do happen every so often. Although insurance is great at helping us with this, it can never replace the full sentimentality you may feel toward a particular item. That’s why we encourage all clients to secure fragile items, heirlooms, and valuables in a safe location to prevent avoidable accidents and minimize unnecessary risks.

Make Note of Problem Areas

Are there any specific areas you would like your carpet cleaners to focus on? While our technicians conduct a spot test and thorough pre-inspection before beginning the carpet cleaning process, we realize you know your carpet best. If there is a specific spot that drives you crazy, let us know! It’s also helpful to let us know if there is anything such as pet urine in the carpet (if there is a large amount of urine, let us know when we schedule your appointment so we can be prepared to clean it!).

Don’t hesitate to let us know if there are any areas you think require special attention or that you have questions about.

Find a Safe Place for Pets

Every one of our cleaning solutions in our Hot Carbonating Extraction (HCE) process is considered safe for pets. But we still don’t want to stress them out or get them caught underfoot. Please take a moment to put your pet in another room before our carpet cleaners arrive. If we’re cleaning the entire home, we recommend taking the pets out of the home for the duration of the cleaning. It’ll only be a matter of hours before they can have free reign to enjoy your freshly cleaned carpet!

Give Us Your Plan for Parking

Because we sometimes use van-mounted equipment, we’re able to work much more efficiently if we can park as close to the door as possible. Even when your requested services do not require these van-based systems, we still need to get our equipment from the vehicle to your front door. Thus, we ask clients to facilitate nearby parking and make a clear path to the service area. If you live in an apartment building or another housing situation that might make it difficult to get our equipment to you, please let us know ahead of time.
